ADRA presents PPE to Adventist health service

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International, has presented a number of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies to the Ghana Adventist Health Service (GAHS) in Kumasi to protect frontline health workers from contracting COVID-19.

The items valued at USD$500,000.00 is to be shared among 37 Adventist and non-Adventist facilities in the country.

Presentation

At the presentation, the Global Missions System Lead of Adventist Health, ADRA International, Mr. John Schroer, said ADRA International has developed a global outreach programme for all of its missions outreach of which the presentation was a part.

He said the mission was building programmes that were sustainable and effective.

“We look for opportunities that have a solid sustainable health system of delivery, one which is reliable and strong enough, that we can be in a relationship with for a long term," he said.

Mr Schroer said there was the need to strengthen it's partnership with ADRA, Ghana, and the Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS) to ensure quality healthcare delivery.

Director

The Country Director of ADRA, Ghana, Dr. William Y. Kpakpo Brown said the commitment of the organisation was to support health workers in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

“This is to show support at this crucial times. This initiative is also to the service of health workers, protect them from contracting the deadly virus and improve healthcare delivery across the country,” he added.

Dr. Kpakpo Brown explained that, since the lives of frontline health workers were crucial to the survival of the industry, the items will help minimise body-to-body contacts.

He gave the assurance that ADRA will continue to support health workers to ensure that they work in a safer environment to save lives.

GAHS

The Country Director of Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS), Pastor Dr. Paul Amoh Kyeremeh, expressed appreciation to ADRA for the gesture.

He said through the support from ADRA, GAHS have been able to improve its services and expand some of its facilities.

Pastor Dr. Kyeremeh expressed the hope that very soon, GAHS would become a centre of medical excellence in Ghana.

He said the war against COVID-19 could not be fought alone but required inter-sectorial collaboration for Ghana to win.
