Zuarungu citizens support health facility to fight covid-19

Members of the Zuarungu Citizens Platform for Development (ZCPD) in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region have made a passionate appeal to residents of the district and the entire region not to disregard all protocols and health guidelines aimed at fighting against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

They pointed out that “COVID-19 is real and deadly” hence residents risk contracting the virus if they refuse to adhere to protocols such as social distancing, regular washing of hands with soap under running water, use of hand sanitizers and nose masks among other health guidelines.

A member of the group, Mr Richard Ananga made the appeal on behalf of the group when it presented sanitary and hygienic products to the Zuarungu Health Centre to support the centre in its fight against the pandemic.

The items are, 40 veronica buckets, 40 hand sanitizers,40 examination gloves, four packets of nose masks,20 gallons of liquid soap and 40 rolls of tissue paper.

Mr Ananga stressed that residents “should not joke with any health guidelines given such staying at home and others else we may blame ourselves when the virus attacks us".

Touching on the donation he observed that as a group they considered the gesture as prudent particularly around this time that health personnel in the country and the World are undergoing so many challenges to combat the pandemic.

“As you visit out health facility in Zuarungu we do not want anybody to come here and say that he or she could not observe the protocols because the health centre does not have some basic sanitary items," Mr Ananga noted.

He said the group will continue to assess the needs of the people of Zuarungu in the area of water, sanitation and hygiene, education, health and other development issues to support those sectors as and when the group is able to raise the requisite resources to finance the sectors.

“We want the people of Zuarungu to know that we are citizens of the area and not spectators” Mr Ananga further stated.

He therefore thanked the health personnel in the area and the Region as a whole for working tirelessly to address health challenges in the area.

A Representative of the Zuarungu Chief, Mr Lawson Asampana who received the items from the group and presented them to the Health centre, observed that the group had brought honour to the people of the area.

He said their gesture was “heartwarming and commendable at this crucial time "because they heeded to their (chiefs and elders) call for all citizens to come home and support their brothers and sisters to fight poverty, diseases and other developmental challenges.

Mr Asampana therefore entreated the health authorities in the district to put the items to good use to enhance efficient health care delivery in the district.

The Bolgatanga District Director of Health Services, Mr Eugene Osei thanked the group for being “so generous and supportive to help fight the pandemic in the district.

He also commended the traditional authorities for supporting the health authorities to enforce the protocols at the community level which is key in fighting the pandemic.
