Youngster makes daring pledge to government

A Junior High School (JHS) Two student of the Grace Preparatory School, Ewuradwoa Obuobia Boateng, has made a daring pledge to support the government to fight some social issues affecting the country.

The 12-year-old principal organist of the Logos Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at the Achimota College in Accra said she would use the power of music to fight poor sanitation practices in the society, child abuse and molestation and teenage pregnancy, among other things.

She said such issues were negatively affecting the country, hence the need to address them.

Career

Miss Boateng, who said this on the sidelines of the launch of her maiden concert recently in Accra, therefore, appealed to corporate entities in both the public and private sectors to come and support her as she prepared for the next concert to tackle anti-social issues.

“I think it is the duty of parents to help their children to identify their talents since they can help transform society for the better,” she said.

She expressed her profound appreciation to her instructors for their support in her pursuits.

Skills

Miss Boateng plays the organ, keyboard and piano. Apart from church, she also performs at other social gatherings, including marriage ceremonies and funerals.

She plays hymns, choral anthems, classical music, highlife tunes and more.

She is the second of five children born to Mr Ofori Boateng, a businessman, and Mrs Ayishetu Boateng, a banker.

In addition to first-cycle school education, the young musician is currently pursuing a certificate course in music at the Wisconsin University College.

“In addition to my academic work, I want to do music to the highest level. I have, therefore, scheduled my timetable in such a way that the things I do (music and schooling) do not conflict.

I also have a teacher who fills me in on any lesson that I miss in school and so combining music and schooling is not a problem at all,” she said.

She said her vision in life was to become a botanist because of the love she had for nurturing different species of plants and that she would do whatever to achieve that dream.

Her favourite subjects in school are Mathematics and Science.

Miss Boateng said she took inspiration from Ludwig van Beethoven, the late German composer and pianist.
