Work towards protection of nation’s legacies - Veep

The Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has asked the public to work hard to protect the legacies left to them by past generations.

He said that was the surest way to ensure continuous and sustainable development of organisations, faith groups and the nation.

The veep made the call at a thanksgiving service held in Accra on Sunday to climax the 90th anniversary celebration of the Calvary Methodist Church. It was on the theme “Calvary Methodist Church: 90 Years Walking with Christ.”

Mr Amissah-Arthur observed that it was important for the public to use such historic occasions to recall and preserve the legacies bestowed the country by past leaders.

“An anniversary provides the opportunity for members of all ages to tell and hear stories of the past. But it is not simply to recount the exploits of groups of enthusiastic and committed Christians or leaders; the examples of such great people must strengthen and inspire this and future generations to work with commitment,” he added.

Thanksgiving

Members of the congregation who were drawn from all circuits in the Accra Diocese sang  psalms of praise such as “He is a Miracle Working God,” “Who has the Final Say,” and “God, you are so Good”  to thank God for how far he had brought them.

Sermon

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Titus K. Awotwi Pratt, in a sermon asked Christians to be obedient and work hard to serve God’s purpose for humanity.

“Those who came before us persevered. If we are celebrating our 90th anniversary in this edifice, it is because they toiled and sacrificed their resources in obedience to God. The onus lies on us to continue to work in faith with God for generations after us to also benefit,” he added.

Most Rev. Pratt urged the people to be obedient and walk in righteousness, stressing that they should not follow the desires of the flesh but to rather seek the favour of God in order to overcome their earthly weaknesses.

Acknowledgement

Members who had rendered dedicated services to the church in various capacities over the years were acknowledged and decorated at the event.

Prayers were said for unity, peace and the favour of God as the nation prepares for the general election in December this year.
