They have also been asked to stop playing underdog roles, as well as undermining one another.

The Headmistress of the Likpe Senior High School (LISEC) in the Volta Region, Dr Mrs Helen Afeavor, made the call when she addressed the fourth quadrennial regional roundtable of the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Society (GNAT-LAS) in Ho.

It was on the theme: “Transforming society through education — The contribution of women achievers in the attainment of Agenda 2030”.

She said gender balance could be achieved if more educated women took up roles in decision-making to end the domination of men in certain critical areas.

She called on women to disregard some beliefs which made them subordinate but see themselves as partners in development.

Address by GNAT official

In an address, the Assistant Volta Regional Secretary of GNAT, Mr Abdul-Aziz Salifu, said women were an indispensable resource in society.

He said the leadership of GNAT had realised that potential and had resolved to tap it for effective contribution towards the improvement of the association and the nation at large.

He said the number of women in responsible positions was assuming significant appreciation and urged the delegates and other women in the teaching profession to effectively participate in programmes organised for them.

Mr Salifu also called on them to endeavour to uphold the principles of the association to make it an enviable one locally and internationally.
