According to her, women need to play supportive roles in their various families and they can do that when they are gainfully employed.

She said the era where women solely relied on their husbands for their basic needs was over, adding that it was about time women engaged in income-generating ventures so that they could support their husbands in the upkeep of the home.

Naakye Pobide, known in private life as Mrs Dorcas Amawuda, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Lady Nash Beauty Company, gave the advice in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Agona Swedru.

She said with the current pace of development, it was just not possible for a woman to decide to stay at home and rely on her husband for her needs, without undertaking any income-generating activity.

She added that the world over was championing women empowerment and that young girls, as well as women, should cease this unique opportunity to acquire skills to enable them to be on their own by working in other establishments.

She said if a woman was not academically good, that did not mean  she could not acquire skills to engage in a trade, stressing that women should not lose hope in life because they were not good academically.

Using herself as an example, Naakye Pobide said after she completed senior high school, she decided to enter the beauty industry and that since she entered that field in 1995, she had trained about 65 young girls who now managed their businesses.

She said some widows were suffering today because they could not adequately position themselves and build their capacities to take up parental roles in the absence of their husbands, and therefore appealed to parents to encourage their daughters to equip themselves for responsible lives in future.
