Women in Worship organisers donate to Cervical Cancer Unit

The organisers of the Women in Worship concert, Genet Services, has donated items procured from this year’s edition to the Cervical Cancer Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Some of the items donated included surgical items, BP apparatus, detergents, wheelchairs, hospital screens, kettles etc.

They also paid the bills of some women on admission at the unit.

Through an initiative they have themed: “Akatasia Campaign,” Genet Services is tackling the menace of cervical cancer which since last year has been identified as the number two killer of women in Ghana.

In that regard, they preceded this year’s Women In Worship with a health walk against cervical cancer followed by a free screening session at the Dome of the Action Chapel on the Spintex Road.

The Chief Executive Officer of Genet Services, Mrs Georgina Nettey, told the Daily Graphic that her team was serious about this initiative because people around her had lost loved ones to the disease.

“I have friends and colleagues who have lost loved ones because of this disease. It is a silent killer and it has to be dealt with. The truth is that, we had a lengthy conversation on which project to embark on and we thought of handling something that was not in our faces like Malaria etc,” she said.

She added that apart from the donation, there were plans to make their campaign more effective.

“We hope to reach thousands of people with our ‘Akatasia Campaign’ which aims at providing free cervical cancer screening and education for women in various communities across the length and breadth of Ghana.

“Our team is set to visit various senior high schools and tertiary institutions to educate females on the causes of the cancer and I want to use this opportunity to call on the First and Second Ladies of Ghana, corporate bodies and pharmaceutical companies in Ghana to join hands with us as we fight against cervical cancer,” she said.

The 2019 edition of Women In Worship took place at the Dome of the Action Chapel, Spintex Road on Sunday, September 22.

It was headlined by Nigerian singer, Mercy Chinwo and supported by Diana Hamilton, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Ceccy Twum, Cindy Thompson and many others.
