Why Ankaful prison inmate slashed a fellow inmate’s penis

A prisoner at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region has slashed the penis of a fellow inmate in a fight.

Reports indicate that the attacker slashed off the victim’s penis in self-defence to prevent the latter from allegedly sodomising him.

While the two have remained tight-lipped on the incident, prison officials say they are investigating the case.

Incident

The Public Relations Officer of the Ankaful Prison, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Mr Daniel Machator, said the victim was yet to explain the cause of the altercation that happened about 9 a.m. last Monday.

According to him, “neither of them is ready to tell us what caused the fight”.

He said the other inmates were also not forthcoming with information, as they claimed they only spotted the two protagonists in fisticuffs, leading to the injury to the other.

The situation has led to speculations that the victim attempted sodomising the attacker.

But ASP Machator said that had not been confirmed yet because “we do not yet know”.

He, however, confirmed that there had been attempts at sodomy in the facility but said those reports were rare.

“The inmates themselves see such acts as bad luck and, therefore, deal with anyone who wants to engage in acts of sodomy,” he intimated.

Action

Mr Machator said the attacker had been put in a segregated cell and that a committee had been set up to investigate the case.

According to him, officials of the facility had not found the supposed instrument the attacker used in committing the act.

“We are still not sure what he used. We did not find any implement at the crime scene,” he said.

Treatment

He said the victim was responding to treatment at the Central Regional Hospital where he had been referred to from the prison’s infirmary.

"The cut was quite deep because I believe some veins were cut. So there was really a lot of blood and the nurse at the infirmary had to give first aid to stop the blood before referring him to the hospital," he said.

Cocaine

In a related development, a substance believed to be cocaine was found on some inmates.

Mr Machator said the substance was found last week following intelligence reports.

He said when a swoop was conducted last Saturday, about one spoonful of the substance was found on some of the inmates.

The police are investigating the matter.
