VRA operation system collapse caused Thursday blackout

Thursday night's total blackout throughout the country was as a result of collapse of the operating system of the Volta River Authority (VRA) at the Akosombo Dam.

The blackout lasted for some hours and even though power was restored to some areas at about 8:30p.m., several areas continued to experience lights off throughout the night.

The Public Relations Officer of the VRA, Mr Samuel Fletcher, told the Daily Graphic that it was due to a technical challenge and officials were still trying to find out what triggered the system collapse.

The Director of Public Relations at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr William Boateng, said because of the break in the distribution of power from the operating system of the VRA, there would be a cut in power supply to its customers.

He apologised to consumers for the inconvenience caused and said all would be restored as soon as the ECG got supply from the VRA.
