Volta Heroes Awards come off this Saturday

An awards ceremony to recognise and reward men and women who have contributed to the growth and development of the Volta Region will be held on December 14, 2014 in Ho in the Volta Region.

The awards, christened; “Volta Heroes Awards”,is being held for the first time and is meant to encourage more people to work selflessly towards the development of the region.

Organisers of the awards, the Volta Heroes Foundation, say patriotism has been waning and many people are not encouraged to work hard for the country because there is hardly any reward for people’s sacrifices. The awards scheme is, therefore, intended to encourage people to be dedicated to the welfare of the country, knowing very well their sacrifices will eventually be recognised.

The Volta Region is one of the least developed regions in the country and not many people are excited when they are posted there. Organisers of the awards are hopeful that it will lead to a situation where people will be encouraged to accept to work in the region. 

The Volta Heroes Awards is not only for people from the region but individuals who have contributed to the development of the region. A founder member of the Volta Heroes Foundation, Rockson Dogbegah, said the list of potential awardees for Saturday’s event included people who do not hail from the region.

“Ultimately, we hope to use this vehicle to rekindle the spirit of patriotism and self-sacrifice among Ghanaians, “ Mr Dogbegah said. He added that despite the fact that there were national awards presented by the government, “ that recognition cannot cover every body and may miss out on some great people who do great things that impact the lives of many”.

The maiden Volta Heroes Awards and dinner dance will also serve as a platform to discuss the development of the region. Many people including top business executives, government and public sector officials, as well as traditional and religious leaders are expected to attend the event.
