The management of Vodafone said it carried out the renovation to help improve access to health care and ensure a friendly environment for children undergoing treatment at the centre.

As part of the renovation works, a sterilised treatment room, a recreational area and a reading room have been provided, while damaged beds and baby cots have been replaced.

The Children’s Cancer Unit cares for children between three months and 13 years who are suffering from various types of cancer.

A study section where patients could be supported by a teacher from the Ghana Education Service (GES) to catch up with academic work while undergoing treatment has been provided at the unit.

Unveiling the renovated unit yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Mr Harris Broumidis, said children were the future leaders and, therefore, needed to be given the best treatment.

He said aside medication, a comfortable environment was significant in facilitating recuperation.

Mr Broumidis affirmed the company’s commitment to support efforts at improving healthcare delivery in the country.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof Afua Hesse, commended Vodafone for supporting the hospital to care for cancer patients.

“We are absolutely delighted to have such world-class cancer facilities for both the adult and children’s ward,” she said.

The Director of Administration of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mr Nurudeen Mohammed, expressed appreciation to the foundation for its good works and promised that the facilities would be well maintained for the benefit of present and future generations.
