The market and the stadium are expected to be respectively completed in May and August next year.

During an inspection of the two projects in Cape Coast last Saturday, the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, said he was impressed with progress of work on the market and the stadium.

Mr Amissah-Arthur was accompanied by Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, the Central Regional Minister; Mr Ebow Barton-Odro, and Mr Kweku Ricketts Hagan,  the Members of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North and South respectively;  and Mrs Priscilla Arhin Korankye, the Metropolitan Chief Executive.

Kotokuraba Market

At the Kotokuraba Market, the Vice-President advised the workers to continue working hard and expressed the hope that the skills they had acquired on the project would enable them to work on other major projects in the metropolis and the country as a whole.

The Site Engineer, Mr Samuel Wilberforce, said although the project was expected to be completed in March next year, completion had been rescheduled for May the same year because of technical challenges.

When completed, the market will have, among other facilities, a car park, an office block and walkways to ensure the free movement of traders and customers.

Cape Coast Stadium

The Cape Coast Sports Stadium is being funded with a $30-million Chinese Government grant.

It will have eight running tracks, a natural grass football field, three parking lots, two outdoor basketball courts, one outdoor handball court, a boxing training court, a press conference hall and a media room.

It will also have a medical room, an audience emergency room, two referee rooms, VIP lobby halls, four athletic lounges, 22 guest rooms among other facilities.

When he visited the stadium, Mr Amissah-Arthur said he was optimistic that it would help the development of sports in the metropolis and the Central Region as a whole.
