Upper West police grab two ‘wanted’ suspects

Two key suspects in the recurrent communal clashes in Wa have been arrested by the police.

Nuru Ibrahim and Ibrahim Suale were arrested in separate operations by the regional police command at the weekend as the security forces try to douse the dispute supposedly brought on by litigation over a piece of land.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Edmund Nyamekye, staff officer of the Upper West Regional police command, the two prime suspects remain in police custody to assist in further investigations.

The two arrests
He said Nuru, who was already on the wanted list of the police for his supposed involvement in the recent violent clashes between the Dondoli and Jejeyiri communities in Wa, was arrested by the police patrol team at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday when he was seen riding an unregistered motorbike.

He said a search on him revealed that he was carrying a fully-loaded pump action gun.

ASP Nyamekye said within 24 hours, Suale, whose alias is Ray Parker, was also arrested in a separate operation, and upon a search on him a gun was retrieved.

He said the two would be arraigned before court for their suspected complicity in a dispute that claimed the life of a woman on December 27, 2014.

Binta Sadiq, 38, died of gunshot wounds on that fateful Saturday when the violent conflict between the neighbouring communities resurfaced just a month after elders of the two sides had stated their commitment to live in peace.
