Until we imprison Korle Bu mafia, agitations will persist - Eddie Annan

A former board chairman of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mr. Eddie Annan says until a clique at the premier hospital is dismantled and its members put behind bars, agitations for the removal of leaders seeking to do right will persist.

Korle Bu has suffered persistent leadership tumults that have seen the removal from office of chief executives and board members, and Eddie Annan believes it is the work of a mafia.

Presently, the Senior Staff Association of the hospital have heaped a load of allegations against the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Gilbert Buckle and for which they want him sacked.

“It’s purely because of the mafia. I keep saying it, there is a mafia in Korle Bu and until that mafia is dismantled it will continue. They’ve done a whole lot of wrong-doing there and they need to cover it up. Nobody wants to go to prison, but I believe they should be put in prison. Until they are done for people to know that when you do the wrong thing you face the law, they will continue doing it”, he told Radio Gold on Tuesday.

Eddie Annan said a forensic audit of the hospital ordered by President John Mahama, acting through the Minister of Health, confirmed an earlier audit while he was board chair and they both have recommendations of what need to be done to fix the problem.

“So even if I was wrong, the forensic audit is wrong? EOCO (Economic and Organised Crimes Office) did a report, is it wrong? How many people will be wrong in one issue of Korle Bu? So I’m saying until that is done, I don’t see the end of it. Probably if I were in their shoes I would do the same. Yea, If I were in their shoes I would do the same, if I’ve caused fraud or stealing all sorts of things and causing all sorts of troubles, of course I don’t want to go to jail, so I’ll make sure that I disrupt the place, so that’s what is happening. Basically Korle Bu needs to be overhauled, that’s the bottom line, there are too many wrong things, wrongdoing going on there and people are dying in the process and the earlier we do something about it the better. And when I say we, all of us, all Ghanaians.”

He said if the employees do not like their jobs they should just leave, saying it is strange how employees at Korle Bu spin issues to demand the dismissal of their employers or job owners when under normal circumstances, it is the dissatisfied employee who quits the job.
