Universal Childcare fetes children

Universal Childcare Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that supports the under-privileged, has feted children living in communities that were affected by the June 3 floods in Accra.

Over 500 children living around Odawna, Adabraka and its environs were at the weekend given food, soft drinks and bottled water.
The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Miss Celestine Emefa Quashie, said the event was her organisation’s way of supporting victims affected by the disaster.

She said it was important to engage children who had been affected by the floods so they did not feel rejected by the community.
“Most of the houses that were affected by the rains have children and in times like this, although all the attention has been shifted to the adults, it is important to engage children in these areas so they feel loved.”

“We may be tempted to assume they are children and so they do not understand the impact of the floods, but most of these children know everything that is happening around them and in times like this, such children need more care and attention,” she explained.

Miss Quashie said her outfit would continue to support children in diverse ways, while encouraging them to soar higher.
She appealed to parents living in flood-prone areas to keep an eye on their children in order to avert any disaster, especially in this rainy season.

She expressed gratitude to her team, the assembly member of the area, donors and members of the community for making the event a success.
