UCC alumnus donates ophthalmic equipment to optometry school

The School of Optometry and Vision Science of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received an ophthalmic equipment worth $8,000 from an alumnus, Abraham Gaitu.

This is to help strengthen clinical training and expand hands-on learning for future eye care professionals.

The equipment was handed over to the school during a white coat ceremony and refractive error day symposium.

It was organised in collaboration with the Ghana Optometric Association and it formed part of preparations towards the celebration of 25 years of optometry training at UCC.

The event, was held on the theme “Eyes on the Future: Refractive Error Correction Today, Success Tomorrow.”

73 students were inducted into their clinical training years through the White Coat Ceremony, marking a symbolic transition from classroom learning to supervised patient care.

The equipment donated comprised two ophthalmic units, four illuminated visual acuity charts, colour vision charts, trial lens sets and trial lens frames.
