The two pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery before the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri.

After the trial of the case, the court found them guilty and sentenced them to a five -year jail term each with hard labour.

Prosecution, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.A. Morkeh told the court that the two victims were masons who reside at Amasaman, a suburb of Accra.

He said Akwaanor and Akakpo, together with six other accomplices who are  at large, posed as lands guards and terrorised landlords and masons at Amasaman and its environs.

On April, 23, 2013, at about 8 a.m., prosecution said the victims were working on their site when Akwaanor and Akakpo led their team to the site and threatened them with machetes and demanded money.

He said Akwaanor and Akakpo made away with a phone and cash of GH¢ 400 from the first victim.

After the operation, the prosecution said the robbers moved to Obom, where the second victim was with some dumper truck drivers winning sand in a pit.

He said the robbers again pulled out machetes and ordered the second victim to call the owner of the concession to give them money else they would slash them.

The prosecution said the drivers offered to give them GH¢100 but the robbers rejected the money and rather took GH¢100 each from the drivers and forcibly made away with an amount of GH¢1,000 from one of the drivers.
