The suspects, Abdulai Ibrahim, 19 and Abubakari Jaro Taara, 30, are currently assisting the police in their investigations.

One pump action gun, 22 cartridges in a bullet belt, one machete, a kitchen knife, three mobile phones, a mask, talisman and an armulet were retrieved from the suspects after their arrest.

Other items retrieved from them were a wooden club, five wrapped pieces of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a torchlight.

Regional Police Commander’s briefing

Briefing the press about the incident in Sunyani last Monday, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of police (DCOP), Mr Maxwell Atingane, said on July 29, 2015 Ibrahim and Taara attempted to break into a woman’s room at Meremano.

According to him, the shouts of the victim forced the suspects to take to their heels.

He said the townsfolk pursued and arrested Abdulai while Taara bolted.

He explained that an announcement of the incident on a local FM station enabled the police to arrest Taara on August 1, 2015 at a nearby village, Sekyerekrom, upon a tip off.

Mr Atinga said a farmer, who was also robbed on his way from the farm, had identified one of the mobile phones retrieved from the suspects as his.

He indicated that the suspects would be put before court.
