The truck will be used during the shea season to convey shea nuts gathered from the villages to the warehouse for shea butter processing for both the domestic and international markets, in order to keep the 650 members of the association in constant business.

Aside from the truck, the EXIM Bank has also provided the association with a working capital of GH¢200,000 for the purchase of shea nuts, 11 shea nut roasters and the provision of 22 dryers to 22 shea producing communities in the Northern Region.

The support to the association, which operates in seven districts across the Northern Region, is from a grant of GH¢340,000 made available to the group by the Ghana EXIM Bank to boost their business.

At a ceremony to hand over the truck at the forecourt of the warehouse of the group at Savelugu last Thursday, the Director, Finance and Administration of the bank, Alhaji Suleman Ibrahim, said the support to the association was to boost the local economy and enhance the incomes of the women involved in the shea processing business in the rural areas.

He said the bank would continue to support such initiatives to improve the living conditions of the people, especially women groups in the rural areas, for them to earn regular incomes to take care of their families.

The Executive Chairperson of the association, Madam Anna-Maria Fati Paul, who received the truck on behalf of the group, thanked the bank for the support and said it would go a long way to boost the business of the beneficiaries.
