Trust Hospital acquires cervical cancer treatment machine
The Trust Hospital at Osu in Accra has acquired a colposcope to help with the treatment of cervical cancer in the country.

The colposcope is a machine that can visualise the cervix and determine changes that are likely to pose a threat to the cervix.
According to the General Manager (GM) of the hospital, Dr Darius Kofi Osei, the machine was one of the few in the country and essential for cervical cancer treatment.
He explained that most women who tested positive for cervical cancer did not know their fate afterwards because of the scarcity of the machine in the country.
Hitherto, Dr Osei said patients who sought medical attention at the Trust Hospital were usually referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment but due to the absence of the machine, they ended up losing their lives.
“The machine will give hope to those who test positive for cervical cancer. They can now rest assured that they can be cured”, he said.
Dr Osei said as part of encouraging women to undergo cervical cancer test, the hospital had put in place a ‘Well Woman Clinic’ to cater for them.
Free test
The ‘Well Woman Clinic’ he said was held every Tuesday and Thursday, at which free cervical cancer test was done on women who were willing to take it.
He stated that they were now doing it for the hospital’s clients because the cost of the test was quite high.
He, however, added that management of the hospital was putting measures in place to extend the free cervical cancer test to others soon.
Dr Osei also stated that even though the test was free, patients would have to bear the cost of treatment.
He advised women to make their health needs a priority and encouraged them to be bold enough to have cervical cancer test for early treatment, if they were found to be positive.
