Trip to Israel not necessary now – Rev. Martey

 According to Reverend Martey, he will not support any money coming from just any source; “from homosexuals. We will take the right decisions that will help the country.”

 “Ghana, even though it is predominantly Christian, is a secular state so money should not be used to sponsor trips like that; we can use the money to renovate mission schools that are falling down.”

 “As we are talking now people are dying in Walewale because of the rainstorm, money should be used to rehabilitate them,” he reiterated.

 Furthermore, the President of the Catholic Bishop Conference, Most Reverend Joseph Osei Bonsu, in an interview on Eyewitness news said President Mahama only explained that the money was not coming from government but it's coming from two Christians who want to sponsor the trip; “but we are not told about the identity of these sponsors; we don’t know who they are, I would like to know who they are.”

 Reverend Osei Bonsu argued that “even when I get to know who the sponsors are, I will persuade them not to spend that amount of money on 200 people to go to Israel. I will persuade them to use that money to provide social amenities for poor people in Ghana.”

 “And the prayers that are going to be said in Israel, those prayers can be said here, so my position hasn’t changed,” he added.

 “The government said they were not providing the funding, but I would like to know who these individuals are, he added.

 “I cannot take part in this project when this amount is going to be used to say prayers which could be said here. I think that money can be used here in Ghana for the poor,” Reverend Osei Bonsu stated.
