Toyota donates car to Noguchi; Ga East Hospital get GH¢60,000 worth logistics
Toyota Ghana Limited has presented a Toyota Corolla saloon car to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) to enhance its operations in Ghana’s fight against COVID-19.
The automobile company also donated personal protective equipment and other logistics estimated at GH¢60,000 to the Ga East Municipal Hospital for the same purpose.

The items included 2,500 nose masks, 2,500 surgical masks, 300 sanitisers, 25 Veronica buckets, liquid soap, among others.
The two facilities have been among the foremost institutions in Ghana’s effort to contain the fight against COVID-19.
Support
The General Manager of Toyota Ghana Limited, Mr Jacob Pimpong, said the support became necessary because of the spread of the virus in the country.
He said the donation to the hospital was expected to empower the front line health workers to treat the virus at the foremost isolation centre for the treatment of COVID-19 in Ghana.
“It is our hope that these items will protect the staff as they continue to do their part during this pandemic,” Mr Pimpong said.
He said as an automobile company also affected by the situation, it had become imperative for the company to support the government in its effort to curb the spread.
Commendation
The Director of the NMIMR, Professor Abraham Kwabena Annan, expressed his gratitude of Toyota Ghana for such an offer.
He said the vehicle was going to facilitate the work of the institute on the COVID-19 and beyond.
“We are very grateful for this donation. This has really touched the institute because this is not coming from the government of Ghana but from a private company,” he added.
Effort
He indicated that the institute had become very active in the prevention and containment of the virus, indicating that “a time is coming very soon when we will have to do strategic research that will help us to make sure that the virus is ended once and for all.”
The director indicated that the car would be needed by the institute for its surveillance and other operations.
The Medical Superintendent for the Ga East Hospital, Dr Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah, said the items would ensure the safety of the staff in the facility.
He urged other corporate entities to emulate the gesture by Toyota Ghana by providing support to intensify the country’s efforts to fight the disease.
