Three suspected armed robbers arrested in Koforidua

Three armed robbers, all drivers who attacked and robbed a gas filling station and some homes in Koforidua have been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command.

The three have been named as Tetteh Stephen, 29, Kwasi Christopher, 25 and Daniel Sobley Teye, 20.

According to the police, they were picked up on Wednesday night upon intelligence, reports Graphic Online’s Naa Lamiley Bentil from Koforidua.

The suspects were said to have attacked and robbed Vista Gas Filling Station at Apersua, and some homes at Nkurakan, both suburbs of Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, told Graphic Online that the robbers made away with Ghc3,191.

The suspects also allegedly injured a 55 year old security guard, Mr Alex Teye and a 17-year-old fuel attendant, Ransford Teye.

According to ASP Tetteh, the security guard, Alex Teye, 55 and the fuel station attendant, Ransford Teye are both still on admission at the hospital receiving treatment.

Initial investigations according to ASP Tetteh revealed that the suspects gained access by scaling the wall from the bushes behind the premises.

It was observed that they smashed all the security lights around, attacked the victims and bolted with the safe, which contained the day’s sales, he stated.

The police said Kwasi Christopher during interrogation said on Tuesday February 27, 2018 at about 5pm whilst at the Nkurakan taxi rank, he was approached by suspect Tetteh Stephen to take him and three others to Otrokpe near Asesewa.

On reaching the custom barrier at Huhunya, his taxi cab developed a fault and he then called Daniel Sobley Teye to assist in carrying the four guys to their destination, he said.

Sobley Teye said he became suspicious of the passengers and pretended he had no fuel n his car and told them he had to drive to Nkurakan to enable him fill his tank.

On reaching a section of the road near Nkurakan, the robbers alighted and decided not to embark on the journey.

According to the police, Kwasi Christopher and Daniel Sobley Teye identified Tetteh Stephen to be among the four passengers they picked in their respective taxi cabs.

Earlier arrest

The command had earlier arrested three robbers who allegedly carried out various acts of robbery in the municipality, according to ASP Tetteh who also said the command has intensified its intelligence in order to pick those on the run.
