Updated: Three-storey building collapses in Accra; one dead, 13 rescued

A three-storey building, which was under construction, has collapsed at Cantonments in Accra.

Accra-based Citi FM reported Saturday that one person has been confirmed dead in the disaster, while 13 people have been rescued from the rubble. The deceased is believed to be the owner of the building, the report stated.

The, building according to the report, is in a near the Africa Centre of Excellence.

Citi FM’s correspondent at the scene, Pearl Akanya ofori, said construction of the building started six months ago.

Quoting eyewitnesses, she said the owner of the building had ignored warning signs that the building was not structurally viable.
