Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested for allegedly trailing and robbing bank customers in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region after monitoring their cash withdrawals.
The suspects allegedly identified customers who withdrew large sums of money from banks, followed them to other locations and robbed them. They are also suspected of breaking into vehicles belonging to bank customers to steal cash kept inside.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command identified the suspects as Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, alias KC, 35. A fourth suspected accomplice, identified as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, is on the run.
According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the three were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by an Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Team at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
The team comprised personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The operation initially led to the arrest of Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo in Kumasi.
A search of their hotel rooms resulted in the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.
The police said the two suspects mentioned Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC, as alleged accomplices during interrogation.
Acting on the information provided, the team proceeded to another hotel at Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu is still at large, and the police have appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to his arrest.
The Command said the three suspects had admitted to robbing a bank customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, after the victim had withdrawn the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also reportedly admitted to carrying out robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
The three suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The police have cautioned bank customers to be vigilant when withdrawing money and watch out for people who may be monitoring their movements around banking premises.
Customers have also been advised not to leave cash or other valuables unattended in their vehicles.
The police have urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of Chinedu, alias Alhaji, to report to the nearest police station or call 191 (tel:191), 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The statement was signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
