Suspects in destabilisation plot planned to kidnap Akufo-Addo, Bawumia – Kweku Baako

The five persons alleged to have been planning to destabilise the country were planning to kidnap President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, this is according to the Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako.

According to him, video and audio recordings of the suspects over the 15-month period that they were being tailed by the country’s security apparatus showed that they intended to carry out the plot at a gathering where the president, his vice, chief of defence staff and other top government officials were all present.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM, Mr Baako claimed that the suspects, who have currently been charged with the possession of explosives, arms and ammunition without lawful authority, planned to execute their plans with their products.

Government’s announcement of the arrest of Dr Frederick Ya Mac-Palm, a medical practitioner, Donya Kafui, a blacksmith, Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu, a freight manager, Colonel Samuel Kojo Gameli and Gershon Akpa, a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces has been met with sarcasm by sections of the public following the release of a photo suggesting to be the range of arms being manufactured by the suspects.

But Mr Baako, who claims to have had the opportunity to watch and listen to the secret recordings of the suspects says the activities of the suspects should not be taken with a pinch of salt.

“I can understand the cynicism, scepticism and the disbelief particularly when some picture of the pistol and knife was put out there. The picture was not a sufficient basis for security analyst to have proceeded to either seek to dilute the information or throw it out entirely into the gutter.

“Fortunately, I’ve been able to watch video recordings, I have been able to listen to audio recordings of the 15 months and I am convinced beyond doubt. If you listen to the plans and the attempts to contact people in the military, indeed there are 10 soldiers right now who are on the radar and busted.

“My understanding is that, those who reported haven been contacted and their assistance being solicited, obviously will be part of the prosecution witnesses. I think there was pre-mature ejaculation in the atmosphere.

“See, the scenarios where they even contemplate the kidnapping of the president, they contemplate a situation where if the president, the vice president, the chief of defence staff and other top shots are at a congregation to explode that thing they were doing there, you see the guy manufacturing with the doctor present there…this is video and they talk of exploding this thing which they were manufacturing and also some chemicals that will make you go off…they contemplate that…these are things that they were discussing and doing…you see the manufacturing in action.

“They were doing it but you see they had been infiltrated and it was the infiltrators who were recording it for 15 months. The meetings where they held deciding to recruit, they were recorded. So this is not a faux,” he said.

Although the five have been charged with the possession of explosives, arms and ammunition without lawful authority, Mr Baako said “I will be hugely disappointed if charges of treason are not subsequently brought.”
