Surveyors seek minister’s support for Surveying Council Bill

The Ghana Institution of Surveyors has appealed to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, to push the consideration and passage of the Surveying Council Bill this year.

The governing body of professional surveyors in the country said the Bill had suffered a protracted setback, and that the group was anxious to see its passage into law.

At a meeting, the president of the institution, Dr John Amaglo, said the institution was a vital component of the built environment, and that their membership on specific boards, committees and commissions was very critical.

Meeting

The meeting between the minister and the institution discussed issues such as the Surveying Council Bill which was expected to be submitted to Cabinet in the immediate future, representation of the institution on relevant boards, commissions and committees, and outstanding payment for services provided to government institutions.

It was the maiden engagement between members of the institution and the new minister to discuss issues of common interest in the sector to advance development on the works and housing front.

Dr Amaglo commended the government for assenting to the Real Estate Agency Act which the institution had sponsored for the past 20 years.

He appealed for the payment of outstanding money owed members for the audit on the Saglemi Housing Project.

The minister said the Ghana Institution of Surveyors played an invaluable role in the Ghanaian economy and the built environment specifically.

He said the government and, for that matter, his ministry, recognised the function of the institution in the development mix, and would, therefore, ensure that the group received the necessary support to function properly.

Commendation

Mr Asenso-Boakye commended the institution for its audit work on the Saglemi Housing Project and others.

The minister and the team from the Ghana Institution of Surveyors have pledged to step up relationship to improve on gains made in the sector.
