A state burial is to be held on Friday, August 17, in honour of the late John Henry Mensah, a former Senior Minister, for his dedicated service to the nation.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo conveyed the decision of the government to honour the late J.H. Mensah when a delegation from the bereaved family paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House yesterday.

The President said J.H. Mensah had mentored him and many members of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition, as well as many Members of Parliament who entered the House in 1996.

“From the days of President Nkrumah through to Busia and eventually Presidents Rawlings and Kufuor, if there be anyone worthy of mention to have served his country well, then it is J. H. Mensah,” he said.

He described J.H. Mensah’s passing as “a huge loss to this nation” and assured the family that the late former Senior Minister would be given a fitting burial.

Until his death, J.H. Mensah was a founder member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He served the country from 1953 till his passing at the ripe age of 89.

His last official appointment was in 2005 when he was made Senior Minister by the then President John Agyekum Kufuor.
