St Peter’s wins 2018 NSMQ

St Peter’s Senior High School has won the 2018 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

St Peter’s won the contest with 45 points beating West Africa Senior High School (WASS) with a point.

This is the third time the Eastern Region School has won the NSMQ since its inception in 1993.

They first won the competition in the year 2000 and later in 2005.

Adisadel College was initially leading the competition in the first three rounds with 29 points.

WASS, however, emerged from behind to lead the keenly contested competition at the fourth round (True/False round) with 41 points after Adisadel College failed to get three questions right. St. Peter’s at the end of the fourth round had 39 points while Adisadel College had 36 points.

The fifth and final round, however, turned the fortunes of St Peter’s around as they managed to answer the second and third riddles correctly for six points; giving them 45 total points at the end of the contest.

WASS was able to answer only one riddle correctly for three points while Adisadel College answered the last riddle correctly for three points bringing their total points to 44 and 39 points respectively.

Prizes

For emerging tops, St Peter’s SHS was awarded with a cash prize of GH¢40,000 from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Their teachers also received GH¢15,000 and the three contestants were also presented with a cash prize of GH¢15,000 and certificates of participation.

The contestants were also presented with a full medical scholarship from the Accra College of Medicine. They also received a full scholarship from Lancaster University Ghana.

They also received a cash prize of GH¢5000 from Bond Savings and Loans.

WASS

WASS also received a cash prize of GH¢30,000 while their teachers were also presented a GH¢10,000 cash prize. The three contestants were presented with GH¢10,000 and certificates of participation.

The contestants also received a 70 per cent scholarship from Lancaster University Ghana as well as GH¢3,000 from Bond Savings and Loans.

Adisadel College

For placing third, the school received a cash prize of GH¢20,000, while the teachers received GH¢5,000. The three contestants were presented a cash price of GH¢2,500 and certificates of participation. The prices were sponsored by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Schools (CHASS) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).

They also received a cash prize of GH¢2000 from Bond Savings and Loans as well as a 70 per cent scholarship from Lancaster University Ghana.
