Soldier arrested for extortion at Enchi

The Police at Enchi in the Western region have arrested a military officer, said to be from the Burma Camp in Accra for an alleged extortion.

The suspect, Corporal Dovlo Agbeshie, with service NO 192629, who is said to be a member of the Band unit of the army, allegedly extorted huge sums of monies from unsuspecting Chinese nationals and some local miners in Enchi and its surrounding communities.

The police were said to have been tipped off about Corporal Agbeshie and his accomplices activities and moved in to effect the arrest.

He is said to have managed to escape but was re-arrested at the Yiwabra barrier at Enchi together with his civilian accomplice.

Apart from his military uniform, the Enchi Police also retrieved three different mobile phones from the suspect.

Corporal Agbeshie and his civilian accomplices are expected to be transferred to the Asankragua police Command for further investigations.

This is the third time in less than two months that military personnel have been arrested by the police for alleged extortion and robberies in the Western region.

On October 30, three officers; A.C.2 Oliviete Solomon with service No.207333, AC2 Agantwuo Agana with number 207323 and Joseph Osei Abraham numbered 207356 AC2 were arrested by the Tarkwa divisional police command for alleged extortions.
