Sensitisation workshop for selected artisans in K’si

Fifty artisans, selected from various workshops, have undergone a one-day sensitisation workshop on co-operatives in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The workshop, organised by the Ghana Co-operative Council, under the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare, was aimed at equipping the artisans with the skills to improve upon their efficiency, commitments and reduce unemployment in the country.

Addressing the opening ceremony, the Secretary General of Ghana Co-operatives Council, Mr Albert Agyemang Prempeh, said the country was facing employment challenges.

He, therefore, stressed the need for the ministry to intensify its education and training programmes to boost the skill development of the artisans to create jobs for themselves.

He said to enhance their efficiency and skill development, the ministry must support the artisans to form co-operatives which would seek the interest of the artisans and encourage them to create jobs to reduce unemployment in the country.

Mr Prempeh said only the co-operatives could enhance the finances, commitments, skill development, aspirations and confidence of artisans to deliver effective and efficient service to their clients.

He said there were a lot of opportunities and advantages if the artisans engaged themselves in co-operatives to seek contracts from the government and to procure quality materials for their jobs.

Mr Agyemang Prempeh attributed the challenges of unemployment in the country to the lack of the co-operative spirit among youth, especially graduates, to seek financial support to start their own businesses.
