Self-styled NSS staff jailed

A 26-year old typist, who posed as an official of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and collected monies ranging between GH¢200.00 and GH¢400.00 under the guise of re-posting some service personnel, is in trouble with the law.

Emmanuel Larbi was put before a Kumasi Circuit Court on Monday, charged with fraud and impersonation.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was subsequently convicted to serve six months in prison.

Police Chief Inspector Sylvanus Damelda told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amoh Yartey that Larbi was caught on September 16.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the NSS, Mr Kwesi Quainoo, got wind that the convict was operating at a location near the Prempeh Assembly Hall and made a formal report to the police leading to his arrest.

He was found with a modem, laptop computer, printer together with fake NSS appointment letters, he had printed.

Mr Amo-Yartey said the punishment was to serve as a deterrent to other criminally minded people.
