Security man robs trader at knife point

A private security man has been remanded in police custody by the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly robbing a trader of her hand bang and mobile phone at knife point at Mamprobi near Accra.

Andrews Nii Noi Nortey is alleged to have threatened to stab the trader if she failed to hand over her handbag which contained GH¢ 2,200 and her mobile phone valued at GH¢ 300.

Nortey has pleaded not guilty to robbery and will reappear before the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, on May 16, 2017.

Facts

The facts as presented by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, were that the alleged robbery incident happened on April 29, 2017 near the Mamprobi Police barracks.

At about 1 a:m. on that particular day, the trader was walking home when Nortey appeared from nowhere, pulled a knife and demanded for all the items on her.

“He threatened to stab her with the knife and forcibly collected her handbag containing GH¢ 2,200, mobile phone valued at GH¢300 and other personal effects and took to his heels,’’ the prosecutor said.

Chief Inspector Adu said the trader raised an alarm which attracted people including police personnel at the barracks who chased and apprehend Nortey.

The prosecutor said an amount of GH¢ 530 was found on Nortey during a search on him at the police station which he said he took from the trader. 

He explained that some of the money fell as he was running.
