He also pledged the commitment of the administration to achieve and maintain the highest standards of efficiency and good conduct in the execution of police duties.

The IGP made the pledge at the official opening of the second Lakeside Police Station at Ashale Botwe in Accra on Saturday.

“We shall not rest on our laurels but rather seek to perfect our strategies through community collaboration,” he promised further.

Infrastructure

Mr Alhassan said the police, like any other organisation, had challenges in the area of providing adequate office accommodation and the administration welcomed the government’s private/public partnership (PPP) initiative aimed at providing critical infrastructure for the police.

He said the new police station, the second to be built by Lakeside Estate Developers, portrayed the determination of some organisations to support the Police Service to protect lives and property.

Crime fighting

The Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohonu, said security had been an issue to contend with at Lakeside Estates and its enclaves some years ago.

He said the police, in an attempt to foil the activities of criminals in the area, had devised both proactive and timely responsive measures, such as targetted and routine patrols and periodic swoops to contain the situation.

He commended Lakeside Estate Developers for committing its resources to bring the police to the doorstep of the community.

Contemporary Times

Mr Christian Yohonu pointed out that crime fighting in contemporary times had widened to incorporate the efforts and contributions of individuals, corporate organisations institutions and the community as a whole.

The commander expressed the hope that the newly constructed police station would complement the efforts of the existing police station to curb crime.

For his part, the Managing Director of Lakeside Estate, Prince Joseph Noble M.K. Ayiku, explained that the new police station formed part of the urban planning development of the company to provide all its customers safe communities.

Development of new suburbs

He said the company was aware that policing in the Greater Accra Region faced challenges as a result of the development of new suburbs.

He said the new police station, which cost GHc450,000, had closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, a charge office, cells, a CID office, an exhibit store, as well as a commander’s office.

Mr Salah Kalmoni, the Group Chairman of Japan Motors, which is the parent company of Lakeside Estate Developers, said in the next 40 years the company would continue to build affordable houses, roads and drainage systems and make Lakeside Estates the number one in the country.
