Dubbed “the Story of Our Lives”, the project seeks to use the life stories of renowned and successful women who have achieved momentous gains in diverse spheres of occupation to inspire young girls.

The project is an initiative of the first female physician to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Dr Bettina Ama Boohene-Andah, through her Mentoring for Youth Development (MENFYD) Foundation.

It was organised in partnership with the Girls Education Unit (GEU) of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Mrs Amissah-Arthur said one of the efficient ways to motivate young girls to aspire for greatness was for “people who have already made it to mentor them”.

“The youth are craving to hear the life stories and experiences of people who have gone through all odds and attained greatness. We need such people to speak to these young girls,” she said.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur bemoaned the growing indiscipline among the youth and stressed the need for parents and all stakeholders to work together to address the challenges confronting the youth.

Dr Boohene-Andah explained that her inspiring and captivating life story and experiences birthed the desire to positively impact the lives of the youth with emphasis on the girl child.

“I and other successful young female professionals will tour all the 10 regions of Ghana to share our unedited life stories as a practical way of mentoring the girls at SHS level,” she said.

According to Dr Boohene-Andah, an aspect of the project would also focus on adolescent reproductive sexual health discussion in a bid to enhance the knowledge of the young girls on “taboo” subjects.

She said in spite of the challenges life might bring to an individual, the desire and quest to rise to the top should motivate anybody not to give up.

“We will make sure that young girls are reminded about the talent and skills they possess and have been given to them by God,” she said.
