The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, and his wife, Matilda, provided 10 new computers and their accessories, as well as assorted library books to stock the centre.

Inaugurating the centre, Mrs Amissah-Arthur said the world was developing at a faster rate due to technological advancement, and it was, therefore, very important that students in particular were provided with computer knowledge to be able to cope with the changes.

She, therefore, appealed to students to take advantage of the centre to improve on their reading skills and knowledge in ICT.

She also advised the students to study hard to become productive citizens in future, and appealed to the assembly and the Agona West Municipal Directorate of Education to ensure that a qualified ICT instructor and librarian were employed to man the centre.

Maintain the ICT centre

Mrs Amissah-Arthur urged the chief and the people of the town to protect the facility for the benefit of future generations.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, lauded the Vice President and Second Lady for playing an instrumental role in the construction and stocking of the centre.

He said that in today’s ICT World, it was essential that the citizenry, especially students, were provided with computer skills to help them to bridge the knowledge divide.

He said that government recognised the key roles chiefs played in the development agenda of the country and would, therefore, collaborate effectively with them to develop the country.

Veep, wife commended

Mr Samuel Oppong, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, said the construction of the centre was in response to a request by the chief of the town during the celebration of the 2012 Akwambo Festival, which was attended by the Vice-President.

He lauded the second family for their support towards the project and promised that the assembly would secure the facility against theft.

The chief of the town, Nana Kofi Yeboah VIII, thanked the Vice-President and his wife for helping to provide the town with an ICT centre.

‘’Our children can now share information with others through the use of the computer,” he said.
