Sanford World Clinic procures two ambulances for Awutu Senya community
Private humanitarian health facility, Sanford World Clinic, has provided two ambulances at its facility in Awutu Senya to serve the health needs of people within the municipality in the Central Region.
The ambulances, which will be stationed at the clinic at Kasoa, will also be available for use in the community for emergency cases.

The Executive President of Sanford World Clinic, Dr Benjamin Taylor, explained the rationale for the procurement of the ambulances and said a lot of lives had been lost to emergency cases as a result of the lack of ambulances for emergency treatment.

“The need for an emergency vehicle has become very important, so we thought having the ambulances here will help save the situation.
“We are closer to the road so having the ambulance will help us to be more mobile and agile to respond to some emergency cases with respect to getting people to referral hospitals,” he said at a ceremony to officially unveil the ambulances.
Dr Taylor added that the ambulances were also procured because the clinic had expanded its medical services to include 24/7 maternal services, and, therefore, having an ambulance on standby would be very necessary.
Saving lives
The acting Municipal Director of Health Services at Awutu Senya East, Dr Paul Dsanie-Aidoo, used the occasion to share stories of deaths that could have been avoided if there were ambulances present.
“One of our doctors had to refer a pregnant woman to a health facility after she got into labour and was rushed to the polyclinic and after assessment, it was realised she needed surgery.
“We were ready and waiting but the ambulance was not available because it was serving another facility. When she finally gets to the theatre table at the referral facility, the baby had passed on,” he said.
He explained that the incident was one of the many harrowing deaths that could be avoided if there were ambulances available for such emergency cases.
The Awutu Senya Municipality is also expected to take delivery of three new ambulances from government to boost emergency delivery services within the municipality.
