The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga Central, Mr Aristo Aryee, has advised residents in the municipality to register their lands to avoid flouting the law.

According to him, many of the buildings in the municipality lack permits and the situation must be quickly rectified before it gets out of hand.

“What happens is that if these residents build at unapproved places, in the near future it will come and haunt them,” he hinted at a town hall meeting in Accra on Sunday.

The meeting was used to deliberate on development issues and ongoing projects in the municipality.

Acquiring land documents

Explaining how the assembly would assist the residents to acquire their building permits, Mr Aryee said he would ensure that the indentures of the various lands were obtained in order to authenticate the rightful owners of the lands.

He also hinted that there was the possibility of demolishing those houses which were on waterways or roads, adding that it had made it difficult for easy drainage in the area.

For those whose houses would be affected by the exercise, he said, they would be compensated in order to find better places to live.

“What this has caused is that vehicles find it difficult to come to the area due to the haphazard siting of the buildings,” he said.

Assembly members

The assembly members in the various assemblies also raised issues concerning roads, water, police post, drainage system, sanitation and health.

They called on the MCE to quickly address the issues to make life better for the residents.

The MCE also assured them that he would do his best to address all their concerns.
