Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings on Thursday tweeted brief tributes to the late Aretha Franklin, affectionately called Queen of Soul.

The celebrated musician passed away Thursday morning at the age of 76 in Detroit, USA, surrounded by her loved ones. Her family said her death was due to an advanced pancreatic cancer.

“She was indeed the Queen of Soul. Her music used to drive us sweet crazy. Rest in peace”, said one of Rawlings’ tweets to Aretha Franklin.

“She carried our love and sweet romance to greater heights. @ArethaFranklin opened the doors to good music and rhythm. There wasn't a single corner of the world that didn't rise and swing to her music.”

Among those celebrating her are President Donald Trump, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Barack and Michelle Obama, Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, Sir Paul McCartney, Carole King, Sister Sledge and Rev Jesse Jackson,
