Margaret Hammond (Chairman), Rose Bokoe (First Vice-Chairman), Sophia Asiedu (Assistant Secretary), and Florence Nartey (Youth Rep) were elected to serve as executive committee members.

The representatives of the various organisations elected were Iris Ofori (ECG), Rafiatu Badamoshie (GWCL), Sally Donkor-Zonu (CWSA), Victoria Botsie (SHC), Sylvia Laari (NORRIP), and Florence Bampoe (MENSVIC).

Mr. Michael Adumatta Nyantakyi, General Secretary of Public Utilities Workers Union (OUWU), who addressed the new executives after their swearing in, urged them to work hard to ensure the progress for the union.

He said that even though the union had come far, there was more work to be done and as such the onus falls on the newly elected executives to lead the charge and urged the women to stride for more.

“I strongly believe that we should be making more strides. Yes, we have come this far but there’s still a lot we could reach out to as PUWU women”, he reiterated.

Mr. Adumatta Nyantakyi further advised the women to work together as a unit, and highlighted how important that will be in achieving set goals.

“Let us work together as a team and when we bond together, there is a lot we can achieve. Let us work to build and foster stronger synergy, first as women and encourage many others to actively participate in the work of the Union at various levels.”

“For you as executives, I will challenge you that make everything possible that you will work together, plan and execute programmes that will energize the women of PUWU”, Mr. Adumatta Nyantakyi advised.

Expressing gratitude for her election as Chairperson, Margaret Hammond thanked the delegates for their overwhelming endorsement and promised to work efficiently with her executives to address all concerns of women of the Union.

She thanked her predecessors for their work and promised to continue the good work.

“I want to say thank you to everyone here, the leadership of the National Secretariat and the immediate past chairperson and her team. Our doors are always open and we are ready for criticisms as long as they are constructive. As your leaders, we are ready to serve you because leaders must be servants”, she added.

The delegates also deliberated on reports from subcommittees and outlined the Union’s goals for the next four years.
