PURC commends ECG for swift power restoration in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has formally commended the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana for its prompt response in restoring power following a major electrical fault that affected several communities in Kumasi and surrounding areas.

The commendation highlighted the incident at Esereso High Tension in the Bosomtwe District, where a broken connection on the Kaase2 overhead interconnector caused electrical arcing and interrupted supply at about 5:46 p.m. on August 6, 2026.

Despite the fault occurring beyond normal working hours, ECG's Line Maintenance team mobilised immediately, working under torchlight to repair the damage and restore service.

In a letter signed by the Ashanti Regional Manager of PURC, Edward Boduah Kingston, and addressed to Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese, the General Manager of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, the Commission praised ECG's management and staff for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to reliable power supply.

"The determination of the team to work under challenging conditions and restore supply as quickly as possible reflects ECG's commitment to serving consumers under all circumstances," the letter said.

According to the Commission, it has observed with gratitude ECG's consistent commitment to ensuring reliable service delivery and the prompt handling of consumer complaints, especially those relating to power outages.

"Your responsiveness, professionalism, and teamwork have made a real difference in the lives of residents and businesses across the region," it reiterated. "At a time when it appeared nearly impossible to restore power due to the nature of the fault, you and your team worked tirelessly and did all that was possible to restore supply. That sacrifice and determination are deeply appreciated."

Ing. Ohenese, in his response, commended the team for their sense of duty, stressing that the restoration effort demonstrated the dedication of ECG engineers and technicians to maintaining network reliability and protecting consumer interests. This recognition, he said, underscores the critical role of ECG's technical teams in ensuring reliability and responding swiftly to faults, reinforcing public confidence in the company's service delivery.
