‘Probe Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly’

An assembly member for  Kansawurodo in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Nana Adjei, has called for a probe into the award of contracts by the assembly since 2011.

He claimed that some of the assembly members used their positions to award contracts to themselves and their cronies.

Such conflict of interest on the part of some members, he said,  had resulted in the financial difficulties of the assembly.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Nana Adjei said some of the top officials of the STMA who were members of the tender committee of the assembly, had set up companies which vied for projects.

In some instances, the assembly member said, some of the equipment of the assembly was used by top officials to execute private jobs.

He claimed that a  bulldozer belonging to the assembly broke down and was abandoned at Eno, near Kojokrom, after it had been used for a private job.

The assembly members said funds were being diverted into private pockets, a situation which has made the assembly now financially distressed

When the Daily Graphic  contacted the Chief Executive, Captain Anthony Cudjoe,he welcomed the probe and said measures would be taken immediately to address all the issues.
