Prez Mahama fetes Nkoranza pupils

About 2,500 schoolchildren drawn from basic schools in the Nkoranza Municipality were yesterday feted at this year’s President’s Christmas Party, held at Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The children were also given schoolbags, caps and assorted items as their Christmas gifts.

Hiplife musician, ‘Double’, entertained the schoolchildren with a stage performance that moved some dignitaries, including the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, and her deputy, Mrs Dela Sowah, to the dancing floor to “compete” with the children.

Nana Oye, who represented President John Dramani Mahama, explained that the organisation of such programmes annually was aimed at encouraging schoolchildren to take their education seriously.

Invest in children

Nana Oye Lithur stressed the need for parents to invest in their children’s education since that was the best legacy they could bequeath to them and reiterated the government’s commitment to promote education as the key for accelerated national development.

She, therefore, expressed appreciation to teachers for their hard work in educating and training the youth who were the country’s future leaders.

Ms Stella Amoatemaa, the Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended President Mahama for organising the party in the municipality, and said the programme was the first of its kind in the area.

She advised the pupils and students to learn hard as that was the only way through which they could pursue their education to the highest level and to be employed.

Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, urged the children to emulate the hardworking, committed and patriotic leaders of the nation, so that they could also become role models in future.

Childrens’ plea

On behalf of the children, a student of the Nkoranza Methodist Junior High School, Miss Sharon Robertson, pleaded with the government to extend the school feeding programme to all schools in the municipality for them to  benefit from it.
