He said money for every single project under the cocoa roads programme was available and that as and when contractors presented their payment certificates, they would be readily honoured.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for cocoa roads rehabilitation in Goaso and Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region last Monday and yesterday, the President said the programme was dear to the government, hence the decision of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to finance it.
The Tepa-Goaso road, which has been in a very bad state for many years, is one of the roads being tackled.
Goaso town roads, the Sankore-Abuom-Nakate and the Asuadei Junction-Asuadei roads will equally benefit.
In the Dormaa municipality, the Dormaa Ahenkro-Kofi Badukrom, Gambia No 2-Kyeremasu, Dormaa town roads, among other roads, will also benefit.
Cocoa farming
In Goaso, President Mahama noted the importance of Ahafo in the cocoa industry and said it was appropriate that roads there were reconditioned.
He asked farmers to take advantage of COCOBOD's free seedlings programme to replant aged farms and also establish new ones.
The COCOBOD, he said, had available 50 million seedlings to supply freely to interested farmers.
The President said the Dormaa area was an important agricultural district, promising that all road projects would be completed to make life more comfortable for the people.
Reaction from chiefs
The Goasohene, Nana Akwasi Bosomprah, praised the President for working so hard to meet the aspirations of the people of Ahafo. He said good roads would enhance economic activities in the area.
The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, expressed appreciation to the President and urged him to do more for the people.
