According to him, it is the responsibility of chiefs to prevent acts of lawlessness by dealing with such issues decisively as well as refer other security issues outside their jurisdictions to the relevant law enforcement agencies.

State Council meeting

Obrempong Krampah, who is also the President of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, gave the advice when he addressed the meeting of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council last Friday.

This year’s annual meeting, which was attended by only gazetted Chiefs, was on the theme: “Quality education for our children.”

Obrempong Krampah noted that the current security situation in the country was not the best and called on the security agencies to step up their operations to protect lives and property.

He explained that the recent lynching of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denkyira Obuasi was a reflection of the state of insecurity in the country.

He added that if the town had a functioning traditional setting, the chiefs and opinion leaders would not have allowed such a barbaric act to happen and asked where the moral fibre and the cultural norms in our society are.

He commended the late Major Mahama for exhibiting a high sense of professionalism by refraining from shooting at his attackers though he was fully armed.

“It is unfortunate that lawlessness is becoming the order of the day, and that the culture of impunity, which is of late gaining prominence in our society, should be stopped immediately,” he stressed.

Fleshing out theme

Touching on the theme, he entreated the chiefs to ensure that children of school age were enrolled in schools and not sent to farms by their parents, while school was in session.

Obrempong Krampah called on the chiefs to take steps to establish educational funds in their traditional areas to cater for the educational needs of brilliant, needy students to enable such students to realise their full potential in life.

He explained that such scholarship schemes would boost their morale and also encourage the students to study hard to become responsible adults.

The District Chief Executives for Gomoa East and West, Messrs Benjamin Kojo Otoo and Bismark Baisie Nkum, pledged to collaborate with the chiefs to improve the living conditions of the people.

They called on the traditional council to make lands available for the implementation of the ‘one district—one factory’ policy.
