President Akufo-Addo uses Presidential jet for brief visit to Burkina Faso

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today used Ghana's Presidential aircraft for a brief international visit to Burkina Faso after a terror attack in that country.

According to flightradar24, the Dassault Falcon 900EX (9G-EXE) departed the Kotoka Accra at 8.08 am today and arrived in Ouagadougou at 9.19 am.

It departed Ouagadougou at 11.27 am and landed at Kotoka at 12.41 pm.

President Akufo-Addo who is the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority was in the Burkinabe capital on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, following last Saturday's terrorist attack which claimed the lives of 160 persons in the Francophone country.

He assured President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and the people of Burkina Faso of the support of the countries of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) towards ridding the region of the menace of terrorism.

The aircraft which is used regularly for in-country travel is currently the subject of an urgent question in Parliament demanding that the government explains why President Akufo-Addo did not use the presidential aircraft for a trip to France.

According to the North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who filed the question, "It is an outrage and a blatant betrayal for Ghana to own a presidential aircraft in perfect working condition" and charter aircraft for Presidential travel.

He also estimated that the President's trip to France cost in excess of two million Ghana cedis.
