Presby Church holds special service for Justice Sophia Akuffo

The Kaneshie Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has held a church service in honour of the Chief Justice, Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo.

During the service, a special prayer was offered for Ms Justice Akuffo, who began her national duties as the Chief Justice in June this year.

Ms Justice Akuffo was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Chief Justice following the retirement of Mrs Justice Georgina Theodora Wood.

The theme for the service was “Called to be sowers”.

Service to God

Addressing the congregation, the District Minister in charge of the Kaneshie Congregation, Rev. Dr Gerald Odonkor, asked state officials, especially those occupying top positions, to perform their national duties as the calling of God for their lives.

He said every leader, including state officials, ought to see their appointment as God’s way of using them to bring a change that would glorify his works.

“You are called to add value to whatever work you are doing. You must see your life as a seed you sow into the environment you find yourself in,” Rev. Dr Odonkor said.

God’s trophy

Rev. Dr Odonkor said every Christian had been given a seed to sow in any environment or place they found themselves.

In that regard, he said a Christian must let “his or her life become a trophy of display that God can use to draw others into his fold.

“You must let your life reflect the character and personality of God. You must not live anyhow and still expect God to demonstrate his power and grace through you,” Rev. Odonkor said.

Touching on the entire Judicial Service, he said people called to serve in that capacity must allow God to use them to bring change and growth.

“You must be able to show mercy when necessary and also demonstrate justice when the need arises,” Rev. Odonkor said.

He noted that every Christian represented God on earth and that they must live a life that would bring honour and glory to his name.

Rev. Dr Odonkor, however, called on Christians and the entire nation to pray for those who occupied top positions considering the fact that they did not have enough wisdom and knowledge to lead unless God intervened.

He also recounted the early years of Ms Justice Akuffo at the church and described her as a solid personality with the fear of God and passion to bring a change for growth.
