The stabbed police — juttah dormevenuA policeman was yesterday stabbed to death by a 35-year-old man in Accra, who had been arrested by the policeman.
Lance Corporal Juttah Dormevenu was allegedly stabbed several times on the neck and later rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His assailant, Ayuba Ankrah, who attempted to flee after committing the crime, was shot in the leg by a police patrol team, leading to his arrest. Dormevenu was part of the patrol team.

Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Freeman Tettey of the Police Public Affairs Directorate told the press in Accra yesterday that the incident occurred around 2 a.m.

He said Dormevenu and his colleagues were patrolling the area when they spotted Ankrah in his car.

Mr Tettey said the patrol team stopped Ankrah and requested to search the car as was sometimes done during the patrols.

The suspect, he said, immediately drew a knife from his pair of trousers and stabbed Dormevenu on the neck continuously until he fell to the ground unconscious.

Ankrah, he said, then collected Dormevenu’s gun and took to his heels.

Mr Tettey said the fleeing man was shot in the foot and was subsequently arrested and sent to the Police Hospital for treatment.

When the Daily Graphic visited the family house of the deceased, it met a delegation of the Police Service led by the Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, which was also visiting the family to console the wife of Dormevenu.
