The Ghana Police Service has seized unauthorised sirens, strobe lights and improvised headlamps from 188 vehicles during a special traffic enforcement exercise in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The operation, carried out at the Airport Roundabout and Santasi Roundabout, targeted the illegal use of sirens, horns, strobe lights and improvised headlamps, as well as the unlawful use of road shoulders and verges.
The exercise was conducted by officers from the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the Central MTTD in Accra and a team from the Police National Headquarters.
In a statement issued after the exercise on July, 8, 2026, the Police Service said officers intercepted 188 vehicles for various traffic offences.
It said unauthorised devices, including sirens, strobe lights and improvised headlamps, were removed and seized from the vehicles, while the drivers involved were taken through the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations and cautioned against repeating the offences.
The Police Service said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to improve discipline, safety and order on the country's roads.
It added that traffic enforcement exercises of this nature would continue in other parts of the country to deal with motorists who flout the road traffic laws.
The Police Service urged motorists to stop installing or using unauthorised sirens, strobe lights and other illegal devices on their vehicles and to comply with the Road Traffic Regulations.
