Police grab six suspects for robbery, murder

A special police intelligence-led operations has resulted in the arrest of six suspected robbers, including twins for their alleged involvement in robberies.

Four of the suspects are said to have allegedly stabbed their victims to death.

The operations were conducted in the Ashanti and Savannah Regions.

The police gave the names of the suspects arrested as Dennis Atta Asamoah Senior, Dennis Atta Asamoah Junior, who are twins and work as conductors in commercial vehicles.

The rest are Kofi Poku, Asante Edward, alias “Oboi,” Dauda Appiah and Yusiif Abdullah, all unemployed.

Operation

The Ag. Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Kwesi Ofori, told the Daily Graphic that a number of intelligence-led police operations were ongoing across the country.

He said those arrested were currently in police custody pending trial.

He said four of the suspects, Kofi Poku, Dennis Atta Asamoah Snr, Denis Atta Asamoah Jnr, and Asante Edward were arrested in the Ashanti Region on August 30.

He said they were pursued after they allegedly stabbed and snatched the handbag of a 22-year-old apprentice hairdresser at the Kumasi Academy SHS (KUMACA) Junction while the victim was on her way to Asokore Mampong.

The young lady was taken to the Manhyia Government Hospital by some good Samaritans but died shortly on arrival.

Savannah operation

A similar operation in the Savannah Region, he said, led to the arrest of Dauda Appiah and Yusiif Abdullah.

The two are said to have allegedly robbed their victim of a gold-detecting machine at gunpoint at Telekura.

Other accomplices of Appiah and Abdullah were currently on the run and are being pursued by the police.

He said when a search was conducted on Appiah and Abdullah, the police recovered an empty shell of G3 ammunition, a single barrel gun and a machete.
Mr Ofori commended the public for their continued support and gave an assurance that the Police Administration would continue to work tirelessly to make communities safer.
